Mr David Mahon is a consultant gastrointestinal surgeon with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. He is a consultant surgeon and clinical director for the surgical department at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust – the first Bariatric Centre of Excellence to be designated outside the United States – and Honorary Lecturer at Bristol University. Mr Mahon has had extensive training in laparoscopic surgical techniques and has performed many procedures to date – he carries out several hundred laparoscopic bariatric (obesity) procedures, laparoscopic hernia repairs and laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder removal) per year together with a number of other laparoscopic procesures such as anti-reflux surgery (fundoplication). His training in bariatric surgery conforms with criteria required by the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He provides the full range of obesity surgery procedures, including gastric bypass, gastric band, intragastric balloon, sleeve gastrectomy and duodenal switch through The Bariatric Group.
