Mr David Mahon is a consultant gastrointestinal surgeon with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. He is a consultant surgeon and associate medical director for the surgical department at Musgrove Park Hospital, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust – the first Bariatric Centre of Excellence to be designated outside the United States. He is a past president of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland. Mr Mahon has had extensive training in laparoscopic surgical techniques and has performed many procedures to date – he carries out several hundred laparoscopic bariatric (obesity) procedures, laparoscopic hernia repairs and laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder removal) per year together with a number of other laparoscopic procedures such as anti-reflux surgery (fundoplication). His training in bariatric surgery conforms with criteria required by the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He provides the full range of obesity surgery procedures, including gastric bypass, gastric band, intragastric balloon and sleeve gastrectomy through The Bariatric Group.
